Are You And Your Partner Looking for a Couples Therapist?
- Do you feel that things could be going better in your relationship?
- Have you and your partner seemed to drift apart?
- Are you struggling with making big decisions together and don’t know how to approach things as a team anymore?
Maybe you and your partner know that you want to move forward together, longing for a cohesive mindset that strengthens your relationship and helps you grow into a healthier couple. Or perhaps, you aren’t sure about the future of your relationship and need help to figure out where you’re headed.
Therapy can help you understand your struggles, learn effective communication skills as a couple, and look for hope for the future.
Change Is Constant, And How We React Impacts Our Relationships
All relationships go through stages of development due to life circumstances, including things like starting a family and raising children, caring for aging relatives, or career changes. These times can put strain on a relationship and make it challenging when conflicts show up. One or both of you might feel stuck, as if you are withdrawing from each other, and having difficulty finding common ground.
Often, when couples avoid working on their relationship and respecting their commitment, they stray in a variety of ways, such as infidelity or behavioral changes that put their relationship at risk. Couples and marriage therapy can help you come to terms with your unique history, the changes you’ve gone through, and how you can both move forward with hope and respect for each other, no matter the outcome.

This Day And Age Presents Additional Challenges To Couples
The world has become divisive with intolerant ideas that make some feel they are at a disadvantage. Whether it’s fighting over politics, disagreements about family planning, or changing values, it’s hard for two individuals to always see eye to eye.
Also, people share unrealistic ideals and the highlight reel of their lives on social media, making it seem like everyone else is living a life that is unattainable. This can make it hard to appreciate what we have. Sometimes there is an adjustment between the dream we thought our lives would be and the reality it has become. How we shift and absorb change is part of our ability to cope with so many facets of life.
Life Can Throw Wrenches Into Relationships
Sometimes issues arise over big decisions like whether to have a child, struggles with infertility, or differing needs for intimacy, but marriage counseling can help work through these circumstances. Additionally, our extended families can negatively influence our relationships with standards about how we should live spiritually, politically, or economically.
We are all human, and it is sometimes hard to see through the lens of our partner when their viewpoint feels so different from our own. It’s challenging to navigate the differences and still love the way we want. Seeing a trained marriage therapist can provide the guidance to understand these challenges and get to the root of both of your needs.
Couples Therapy Lets You Understand And Heal Together
Discussing the issues that have led to where you are today in marriage or couples counseling can help you both clarify your goals and start making more informed decisions. You can find a sense of calm and gain skills to aid in communication, so conflict doesn’t rule your lives anymore.
By learning the history of your lives, I can help determine how we got here, while providing an understanding of how the brain works in relationships and how it reacts to distress. We’ll practice skills to tap into empathy and enhance effective communication so we can break through barriers and long-standing habits that are in the way.
Modalities Designed To Help Couples Find Peace And Heal
As a therapist, I utilize Couples Therapy from a Developmental Model, which brings awareness to the stages that couples go through, as well as an appreciation for how neurobiology affects relationships. Understanding how individuals evolve helps us normalize and focus on areas of growth.
In addition, I follow John Gottman’s expertise with couples counseling, as his method provides a wealth of information that is highly research-based and well-founded.
Couples communication counseling teaches you the skills to keep your brain regulated despite being activated by triggers and stress. I can equip you with grounding and relaxation techniques that can be a huge support when needing to engage constructively.
Couples Intensives
It can be hard to find the time to get to the heavy stuff in week-to-week therapy. I provide in-person intensive couples therapy as an option for you and your partner. This form of therapy takes the time to custom focus, ‘triage,’ and turbo-boost your effort, which can have a significant impact on your relationship without distraction. An intensive is for you if you do not want to trudge through slow, weekly sessions that may not penetrate, and you are on the brink of divorce, and need immediate results.
Intensive therapy is designed to address your unique relationship patterns, including issues with intimacy, communication, goals, or values, and create a new way forward. I’ll provide guided practice in experiential communication exercises, including real-time practice in a private, distraction-free setting.

Weekend Experience
One option is a weekend experience curated to fit your unique relationship. This would include two full days that involve a variety of activities, resources, and opportunities for growth. The continuity and targeted work result in a deeper understanding of how you co-created your current situation, and clarity about how to pivot and make lasting change today.
Most of us value family relationships above most other things in life. Couples therapy is an opportunity to improve and strengthen your relationship for the future. This will give you new ways of communicating as you learn how to work as a team again.
Alternate Schedules
It is possible to have an intensive that lasts for only one day, and the minimum duration for an intensive would be four hours. This is dependent on a variety of factors, including scheduling needs and the level of depth you both hope to achieve.
I bring extensive personal and professional experience to this practice. As a couples therapist, I am relatable and find it easy to identify and connect with my clients. Additionally, I don’t pathologize; instead, I take the time to normalize and create a safe space, meeting you both where you are.
While it can be hard to open up, the benefits of digging down to the root causes of your struggles are often life-changing. Additionally, therapy is an entirely confidential process, and I will not share the details of our sessions with anyone (with the exception that you indicate you are a harm to yourself or others physically).
Activities During Intensives
I will incorporate videos, exercises, and specific interventions without the usual time constraints of weekly therapy. Intensive therapy may include activities like the ‘Initiator and Inquirer’ exercise, learning about the stress response and where triggers come from for couples, as well as effective communication skills. You also receive a 90-minute follow-up session three weeks later to discuss the outcome and reflect.
Is It Possible To Move Forward Together With Peace And Dignity?
You and your partner can learn to avoid the same old traps by being open, curious, and truly listening to each other again. While the circumstances in your relationship might seem hard right now, it is possible to break free of negative patterns and establish trust and safety, so you can work as a team again to pave a different path into the future.

I am concerned about the cost of therapy.
Living with active conflict with your partner impacts your mental and physical well-being. You could consider marriage therapy a part of wellness that is as critical as other interventions, like going to the doctor or going to the gym.

I am skeptical about the effectiveness of therapy in general.
Couples therapy can enhance your knowledge of yourself, your partner, and how the two of you can break negative patterns and create healthier, better ones. The effectiveness of therapy is directly related to how willing you are to show up motivated and want change. I can guarantee to offer research-based skills that address your specific issues.

I am concerned that you will take sides with one of us in the relationship instead of staying neutral.
It is not unusual to be concerned about what either of you may reveal in sessions that would cause your therapist to judge you. However, a hallmark of couples therapy is that the counselor remains neutral. I will look to your common goals and values as the objective, instead of making anyone feel like the villain in the therapy room.
